Everything You Need to Know About Screened Sand

Washed; free of clay, silt and organic debris

At a cabin pad or utility excavation, Screened Sand has a place after the subgrade has been prepared and selected material is needed rather than soil pulled from the cut. Although it carries the Screened Sand name, this product is washed, with clay particles, silt, and organic matter absent after processing. It can be used in concrete work, leveling, backfill, and general construction tasks where prepared material is needed.

Deep frost and breakup conditions can make it important to keep prepared sand separated from muskeg and disturbed ground. For pipe work or forms, guide the sand into open spaces and tight areas before closing the work, since the material flows readily where it is placed. Follow the project's compaction procedure for backfill around utilities or foundations, rather than leave pockets of excavated soil behind.

Common Uses

Concrete & Mortar Mixing

Concrete and mortar use washed sand as a key aggregate. Its washed, even-sized grains help produce uniform mixes for wall work, slabs, and foundations.

Backfill & Trenching

Place washed sand around foundation excavations, post holes, and utility trenches. Its clean material is suited to compacting in tight areas and helps keep drainage systems free of debris.

Grade Preparation

Use washed sand to smooth uneven ground, set drainage slope, and ready a work area. It moves into shallow depressions and packs down to a uniform surface, useful when breakup-season driveway repair needs a level finish.

Pipe & Cable Bedding

Use washed sand below and around underground cable, conduit, and pipe runs. It forms an even bed around the installation, helping avoid coating damage, movement, and concentrated loads.

Why Choose Screened Sand

Washed Aggregate

Washing screens out clay, silt, and organic debris that may interfere with concrete or drainage. The remaining sand is appropriate where a clean aggregate is called for.

Even Grain Size

A uniform range of grain sizes gives washed sand predictable use in concrete, bedding, and fill projects. Consistent sizing helps the material place and compact evenly.

Broad Job Use

Concrete work, pipe support, and site grading can all use washed sand. Using one material across these tasks may reduce the need for separate aggregates on the site.

Bulk Ordering

Bulk washed sand can supply larger jobs without relying on bagged material. A delivery may cover sand needs across more than one construction phase.
